Another tow truck driver hit on icy interstate

Posted: Updated:

For the second time in less than one week, another tow truck driver is recovering after he was hit while pulling a car out of a ditch.

This happened around 12:50 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the eastbound lanes of the Ohio Turnpike near I-280.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Rodney Peacock, who works for Madison's Towing out of Fremont, had just finished pulling that car onto the shoulder when another car slid out of control and hit it.

The impact tossed Peacock himself into the ditch.

He was taken to Saint Vincent Mercy Medical Center and, at last check, he was out of intensive care.

Last week, another tow truck driver was hit along a snowy road.

Steven Johnson Sr. from Monroe pulled over to help a woman who ran out of gas.

That one happened along I-75 northbound near exit 9 in Michigan.

A semi truck then and hit Johnson and kept going.

Michigan State Police and Monroe County deputies have still not located that semi or its driver.

If you have any information, investigators are asking you to speak up.

Residents of a small Canadian island are being warned not to drink their well water because of potentially toxic algae in Lake Erie. The blue-green algae blooms causing the warning are the same stuff that contaminated the drinking water of about 400,000 people in the Toledo area earlier this month.
