2 people injured, 7 pets killed in Ohio house fire

Posted: Updated:

SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say an early morning house fire injured two people and killed seven pets in northeast Ohio.

Firefighters say they found a woman on the floor inside the front door of the home in Sheffield Lake, about 20 miles west of Cleveland. The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reports she was taken to a hospital with burns.

Fire Lt. David Novak says a man believed to the woman's son got out of the house before firefighters arrived about 5:40 a.m. Saturday and was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.

Authorities didn't immediately release the conditions or the names of the man and woman.

Novak says three cats and four dogs were killed.

The state fire marshal's office is helping determine the cause of the fire and loss estimate.
