Conservatives backing Kasich challenger

Posted: Updated:

Ohio Governor John Kasich faces a challenge from Democrats as he runs for re-election in 2014, but now he's facing a challenging from his right.

A veterinarian from Youngstown and an academic from Dayton are looking to be included in the Republican primary to challenge Kasich.

John McaVoy, the founder of the Toledo Tea Party, says challenging Kasich sends a message.

"By bringing these candidates forth you're saying we don't agree with you.  You need to address these issues to the voters."

The issue that has sparked the resistance is the governor's implementation of Obamacare and expansion of Medicaid.  Tea Party activists say the governor has expanded government, attacked personal liberty and acted fiscally irresponsibile.

Dr Don Allen and Dr Kelly Kohls are running as Republicans but must first get the 1,000 needed valid signatures to appear on the May primary ballot.
