City drops lawsuit against Southwyck Mall owners

Posted: Updated:

The City of Toledo has decided to drop its lawsuit against  the owners of the Southwyck Mall site.

Former mayor Mike Bell sued the owners for $18,000 dollars in maintenance fees owed on the property.

As a councilman, D. Michael  Collins was against that idea.  Now as mayor, Collins instructed the city to drop the lawsuit in an effort to build a better relationship.

Chief of Staff, Bob Reinbolt says, "We're maintaining the property and we'll work with them and i'm sure, eventually, they'll pay their bill.  We don't need to sue them to pay their bill, just work with them."

In the meantime, there's a new for sale sign at the old mall site which may be an indication that the owners are now willing to let a new developer take over.
