ALPENA, Mich. (AP) - Bitter cold is lingering across Michigan, with readings below zero and snow snarling traffic in parts of the state.
The National Weather Service reports Wednesday morning lows of 20 degrees below zero in Alpena in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.
Frigid readings came in throughout Michigan, including minus 16 in Ann Arbor in southeastern Michigan and Drummond Island at the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula. Detroit's low hit zero degrees.
WJRW-AM says snow has tangled traffic, closed expressways and caused multiple crashes along lower Michigan's Lake Michigan shoreline.
State police say 49-year-old Kristine McKinzey of Iron River died after losing control of her vehicle on a snowy road and colliding with a snow plow in Iron County's Bates Township in the western Upper Peninsula on Wednesday morning.
