Feed the Firefighters

Posted: Updated:

The community is coming together to feed local firefighters after two of their own were lost fighting a fire on Sunday.

Jamie Armstrong organized a plan to feed the entire Toledo Fire Department for a week.  So far thousands of people have signed up to provide food.

Jamie says, "There's still about seven stations that have nobody signed up for them. So we'd like people to get the word out."

Armstrong says it's the least she can do to help those who risk their lives every single day.

Local restaurants have also been busy delivering hot meals to help out. Shawn's Irish Tavern on Heatherdowns donated pizza and hot wings to the nearby fire station on Airport Highway.

The staff says offering warm meals is its way of showing the community's support during the firefighters' time of grief.

Owner Mike Shroyer said, "I heard about it on Facebook and figured since they still have to work today and they don't get a day off to grieve, it would be best to feed the ones that are still working."
