Forwards Aaron Clarke and Max Shalunov each scored twice as Toledo defeated Greenville 4-2 on Sunday evening to snap a four game losing streak. Toledo has an overall record of 13-22-3-0 and is 9-9-0-0 at home.
Greenville struck early with a pair of first period goals to take a 2-0 lead. Toledo would counter when Aaron Clarke collected a steal and wristed a shot over the shoulder of Greenville goaltender Jason Missiaen. Max Shalunov would wrist in a shot at 19:54 of the first period to tie the game at two.
"We continued to fight all night long," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "Getting those first period goals was key to give us momentum that we carried through the rest of the game."
Toledo would take the lead for good when Aaron Clarke tipped a rebound past the Greenville goaltender at 14:43 of the second period. Clarke has six goals in eight games with Toledo. Max Shalunov would give the Walleye some breathing room at 12:09 of the third period with his 6th goal of the season.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Mac Carruth made 25 saves on 27 shots in net for Toledo. Carruth has a record 5-9-0-0 on the season and snapped a season game losing streak. Toledo scored in the first period in the first time since January 12th against Wheeling, a span of four games.
