The Defiance women's basketball team is looking to bounce back from a weekend loss to Hanover when it travels to Bluffton tomorrow Wednesday, January 29. The Purple and Gold will have a chance to sweep the Beavers for the second time in three seasons with a victory.
This will be the 69th edition of the rivalry matchup between DC (7-10, 4-6 HCAC) and BU (10-7, 6-4 HCAC). Earlier this month on January 15, the Yellow Jackets took round one of the northwest Ohio battle by a score of 70-61.
Freshman center Kelsey Tietje (Deshler, Ohio / Patrick Henry) led Defiance in the victory by going 9-of-11 from the floor for 19 points. She also notched 11 rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks.
Overall, the Purple and Gold shot 28-of-44 (63.6 percent) from the field that set a new Heartland Conference record. DC also dominated the Beavers on the glass by a margin of 42-21.
But BU will be looking to repay the Yellow Jackets on its home court where they have struggled in recent years. Defiance has only been able to pull out one win at Bluffton since the 2007-08 season.
As always, it will be a tough matchup for the Purple and Gold. The Beavers own a 5-1 record at home this season and have won their last two contests, holding both opponents to under 57 points.
DC fans traveling to the game should try to wear Purple, as the event is aiming to raise awareness and show support for pancreatic cancer and "4 Pete's Sake". Tip for the women's basketball contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
