Remembering Private Jamie Dickman

Posted: Updated:

Throughout the day Thursday people headed to Perrysburg Township to pay their respects to private James Dickman. A public showing at Cedar Creek wrapped up about Thursday afternoon.

The life of a loving husband, father and a dedicated firefighter was celebrated by thousands in the community. Firefighter James Dickman died in the line of duty Sunday fighting an apartment fire. His friends and family call him Jamie. He was a talented musician who loved his guitar.  Members from his church describe Jamie as a rock-star whose faith was strong.

"Just a fun loving full of life full of energy very vibrant very creative musically wore very bright pants on the worship team so in honor of that the worship team will be in very brightly colored pants for the funeral tomorrow," said Suzy Sanders.

"Jamie joined our worship team 3 years ago and has been playing guitar and bas and I have developed close friendship with him through that," said Charles Conrad.

Charles Conrad says he honored to pay tribute to Jamie Friday.

"He had a guitar that was particularly special to him that he enjoyed playing on the worship team so just in memory of him tomorrow during the funeral I will play on his guitar," said Conrad.

Jamie's dream to become a firefighter in Toledo came true six months ago. He loved his job. His death has brought people from all over together.

"We had a lot of close calls but this is something we do we just have to show some support for the families and do what we can do basically and you're kind of drawn anyway you think we worked all those years we were lucky and fortunate so you're just kind of drawn to show up and do what you can," retired Toledo firefighter Mike Hertzfeld.

"We were just talking to some of the older fellahs looking at those young faces in there it actually gives you a good feeling to know that exuberance and enthusiasm is alive and well in the Toledo fire division," said retired Toledo firefighter Norm Mielke.
