YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - A Milan woman and her teenage daughter were injured after the rear of their car was struck by an Amtrak train in Ypsilanti.

Ypsilanti Fire Department Lt. Mike Kouba says the car was stopped on the tracks on the wrong side of a crossing gate when it was hit about 12:20 p.m. Saturday.

He says the driver didn't realize she was on the tracks because they were covered with snow.

She and her daughter were hospitalized. Kouba described the girl's injuries as "moderate," and says the mother was hospitalized as a precaution.

Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm tells the Ann Arbor News that none of the 95 passengers aboard the Chicago-bound train were hurt.

Kouba says train conductors told police it was traveling "relatively slow" when it hit the car.
