The Toledo men's tennis team had a strong outing at Shadow Valley Tennis Club, defeating Youngstown State 6-1 for its second win in three matches.
"We're getting better on the big points and I think we're playing better as a team every match," head coach Al Wermer said. "We're learning how to battle together and having some fun fighting together."
The Rockets claimed two of three doubles matches on the day. Juniors Mark Singnil (Samutsakorn, Thailand) and Nicky Wong (Mansfield, OH) scored a 6-4 victory in No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Garrett Cona (Silver Lake, OH) and freshman Stjepan Sisko (Kastel Stari, Croatia) won 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles slot.
Sisko also earned a win in No. 2 singles. It was his third singles victory of the season, improving to 3-1 in the second spot.
Singnil defeated Silviu Mistreanu of Youngstown State 5-4, 6-4, 10-1 in No. 1 singles to bump his record to 3-1 in the first singles spot and 5-3 overall. Wong, junior Roberto Meza (Antofagasta, Chile) and senior Ben Brocker (Poland, OH) all earned singles victories as well, in the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
This evening's match against Ferris State was canceled due to inclement weather, but may be rescheduled for later in the spring.
The Rockets complete their weekend action tomorrow, welcoming IPFW to the Glass City. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
