The Bulldogs traveled to play the Comets of Olivet College Saturday evening. Adrian found themselves in a 10 point first half deficit as Olivet led 35-25 at the half. The second half saw the Bulldogs mount a comeback as Adrian outscored the Comets 44-31 in route to their first MIAA win of 2013-14. The Bulldogs 69-67 win improves their season record to 5-14 and their MIAA record to 1-7.
The Comets began the game with a 13-2 run as the Bulldogs fell into an early 11 point deficit. Adrian battled to bring the Olivet margin to within just five until a 9-0 run starting with 9:53 left in the half put the Bulldogs down by 16. Adrian fought this off by diminishing their deficit to 10 at the break, 35-25.
The second half saw the two teams trad baskets as the Olivet lead remain in double figures, 49-38, with 12:18 remaining. The Bulldogs then turned it on as they went on an 11-0 run over the next 3:31 of the game and tied the score 49-49 with 8:47 left in the game. Two ties and two lead changes followed but the Bulldogs took the lead last as they made their free throws down the stretch to hang onto a 69-67 victory.
Rickey Jackson led Bulldogs with 19 points. Wesley Reed tallied 18 points and Ben Rodak compiled 15 points and seven rebounds. Curtis Gordon came off of the bench to knock down 15 points.
The Bulldogs will see action again Wednesday, February 5 when they host Trine University at 7:30 p.m.
