Mac Carruth made 36 saves for Toledo, but the Jackals defeated the Walleye 4-2 Saturday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 14-24-3-0 and is 9-11-0-0 at home.
For the first time in eight games, Toledo struck for the first goal of the game as Bobby Shea fired in his first goal of the season at 2:37. Elmira tied the game when Harry Young wristed a shot through some traffic and past goaltender Mac Carruth at 12:12 of the period.
"We tried to play twenty minutes and win a hockey game," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "Most in this league teams are too good for any team to do that."
The Jackals survived much of the second onslaught by Toledo and took the lead when Patch Alber scored at 17:39. Elmira would make it 3-1 when Dane Walters scored on a partial breakaway at 12:57 of the third period.
Toledo's Kevin Lynch would get his 6th goal of the season at 15:35 of the third period to pull the Walleye within one. A furious finish saw Toledo hit the 40 shot mark but they could not score the tying goal.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Mac Carruth made 36 saves on 39 shots in net for Toledo. Carruth has a record 6-10-0-0 on the season. Elmira out shot Toledo 20-8 in the first period and Toledo held a 32-20 shot advantage the rest of the game.
