Junior guard Julius "Juice" Brown (Markham, IL) has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and for the eighth occasion in his Toledo career, the league office announced on Monday. It is also the sixth time this year a Rocket has been honored with the weekly award.
Brown averaged a team-high 18.0 ppg and 8.0 apg for the Rockets last week in road games at Miami and Ohio. Brown, who shot 48.3 percent (14-of-29) from the field and sank all five of his free throws, tallied eight points and eight assists in UT's 83-70 road win at Miami.
Brown then poured in 28 points, one shy of his career best, and dished out eight assists in a 95-90 (OT) loss at Ohio. He made a career-high 11 field goals, including a game-tying jumper that sent the contest into overtime. In the extra session, he hit a pair of jumpers to provide the Rockets a one-point lead before having a potential game-tying three point shot rim out.
Brown is leading the Mid-American Conference this season with 6.7 assists per game and a 2.3 assist/turnover ratio and is tied for seventh with 14.5 points per game. In league play, he sets the pace with 5.9 apg and is fourth with 17.1 ppg and tied for third with 2.3 three-point field goals per game.
