Lourdes University's Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) has been named this week's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Gray Wolves to a pair of victories last week.
Steinmetz averaged 14 points and 15 rebounds per contest in victories at Concordia (Mich.) and at home against Indiana Tech, shooting 70.6% from the floor. He has tallied five straight double-doubles and has registered double-doubles in eight of his last nine games overall.
Steinmetz began the week scoring 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting Wednesday night, and grabbed 11 rebounds coming off of the bench at Concordia (Mich.). He followed that effort up on Saturday afternoon with 14 more points on 6-of-9 shooting, and grabbed a season-high 19 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end of the floor.
The Gray Wolves' team leader in both scoring and rebounding, Steinmetz is averaging 13.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest. He is shooting 53.8% from the floor on the year. This is his second conference Player of the Week accolade of the season, having also earned the honor back on Jan. 6.
Lourdes (14-10, 9-7 WHAC) will return to action on Wednesday evening, traveling to Adrian, Mich. to face Siena Heights. Tip-off against the Gray Wolves is set for 8 p.m. at the Fieldhouse.
