Toledo Auto Show

Posted: Updated:

If you're in the market for a new ride, the Toledo Auto Show is about to hit high gear. The SeaGate Centre is filled with dozens of cars and a lot of people say if you're ready to buy this is your show. It opens to the public Thursday but we're giving you an early look inside. There's everything from muscle cars to mini vans, high end luxury rides to pick up trucks and of course a lot of the GM and Jeep vehicles have Toledo ties.

From Honda and Mercedes to Ford and Chrysler and Toyota to BMW, there are dozens of makes and models here. The Chevrolet line up features this all new Corvette Stingray. Jamie Makowski is a Chevrolet product specialist, "People just love looking at a piece of American art. It has a 455 horsepower 6.2 liter, V8 engine. We are also introducing the new Z06 Corvette that will come out later this year with 625 horsepower." The transmission for the Z06 will be built here in Toledo, along with the transmissions for more than a dozen other GM cars, trucks and SUV's.

Of course the Toledo Jeeps are here too including a Wrangler Polar Edition that highlights Jeep's winter capabilities. Makowski says a certain kind of ride may be getting a little extra attention from buyers, "I think the auto show comes at the perfect time for buying four wheel drive's, pick-ups, SUV's and crossovers."

Makowski says there's plenty of new technology and safety features on display,  "The GM vehicles offer side blind zone alert which will slow your vehicle down if you approach a vehicle in front of you too quickly. The system will apply the brakes. Our Chevy Traverse has the first center airbag which deploys between the driver and passenger, so in a side impact collision there is protection for the heads."Mitch McVicker is a product specialist with Buick and the all new line up has some great safety offerings, "Anytime you change lanes and put your blinker we have a system that will detect if someone is in your blind spot. It will blink in your side mirror and let you know. There is also a rear cross traffic alert, it's a radar detection behind the vehicle that lets you know if someone is crossing your path as you are backing out, which is a nice safety feature as well."

We all know how important the auto industry is to our community and it's the same story for the state of Ohio. According to the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association, retail car sales in Ohio add up to more than 34 billion a year which makes up about a quarter of the total sales tax collected in the state. More than 50,000 Ohioans are employed by the auto industry.
