Streets skipped by plows miss trash pickup-up, mail service

Posted: Updated:

Michael Murphy lives Delence Street in East Toledo. He says his neighborhood has been ignored by plows and he's frustrated.

"We've run out of space to put any snow. As you can see it's piled in the middle of the street, huge mounds."

He says his neighborhood can't even get garbage pickup.

"I called Republic Services and they flat-out told me, they wouldn't come down this street because it's impassible and they couldn't make it."

With snow piles as tall as person, clearing this street could be difficult. Neighbors say plows probably won't cut it, front loaders and dump trucks may be needed.

Over on Ross Street, Feymon Walker has similar complaints. "We really would like to just get the street plowed so we can get regular mail, regular trash pick-up. It's just been a problem. Our family can't even come to make sure our grandmother's safe."

Dave Welch, Commissioner of Streets, Bridges and Harbor in Toledo says some streets won't be plowed. "You should be within 2 to 3 blocks of a plowed/salted street. We don't salt every residential, there's too many to handle. There's a lot them out there, can't get to all of them."

Feymon Walker says he's worried for the safety of his family. "I don't believe a fire truck could make it down this street at a rapid pace if there was an emergency or a life and death situation."
