House where Baby Elaina’s remains found may be demolished

Posted: Updated:

The house where baby Elaina Steinfurth was murdered may be demolished.

13abc spoke with officials from the Lucas County Land Bank. They say a tax proceeding has been initiated on the property at 704 Federal Street, the first step in the foreclosure process.

Once that process is complete, officials say it's likely the home will be torn down.

The process is expected to take a minimum of six months, meaning the earliest demolition would take place is roughly one year after Elaina was first reported missing.

Her disappearance sparked a search that lasted through the summer and drew volunteers from across our area. In the end, the search was all for nothing. Detectives found Elaina's remains hidden in a box in the garage.

In December, Elaina's mother, Angela Steinfurth, and her ex-boyfriend, Steven King, received life sentences for their roles in the girl's death.

Prosecutors say Steinfurth tossed the toddler across the room because she would not stop crying. King admitted to then killing the baby.
