Neighbors: Club where deadly shooting happened nothing but trouble

Posted: Updated:

Neighbors of a club in South Toledo are nervous after a fatal shooting early Sunday morning. They says it's not the first time there's been trouble.

Toledo Police responded to Club Status on Airport Highway just east of Byrne around 3:30 in the morning on reports of shots fire. When they arrived, they found 23-year-old Lamar Booker dead in the parking lot.

Jackie Fields and her husband woke up to flashing lights. "I knew something bad had happened at that bar again." she said."It was very scary. Luckily our bedroom is in the back, so we didn't hear any gun shots or anything."

The Fields live right across the street from the club. "It makes us nervous where we live. If my kids were little, we wouldn't be living here, but since they are all grown and raised, it's just us."

Neighbor Patti Wallace agrees. "It has been here forever and they have had trouble on and off forever." She says the club is a nuisance. "It's scary because we have a nice little block. Everybody is very friendly and when you hear there is a shooting at the end of it, you are afraid to have your friends over."

Police say they don't know what caused the shooting. But neighbors like Jackie Field have a solution to the problem. "I think they should check on how much trouble has been going on over there and close that place down."

So far, no arrests have been made.
