Bowling Green's 1600 relay team posted its best time of the season and the Falcons' distance medley relay recorded the third-fastest time in the Mid-American Conference this season on the final day of the GVSU Big Meet, hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Maria Meredith, Natasha Greggs, Natalie Sommerville and Rachel Durbin ran the DMR for the first time in 2014 with a time of 12:00.70. That time is more than 20 seconds faster than the Falcons ran at the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships a year ago.
The 1600 relay team of Jeanette Pettigrew, Demetra Taylor, Gabrielle Edwards and Brittany Sinclair ran the fastest of 24 teams at Grand Valley State Saturday. With a time of 3:49.32, the Falcons broke the 3:50.00 mark for the first time in 2014.
Along with the relay, Pettigrew competed in the long jump for the first time in her collegiate career and did so in impressive fashion. She leaped 18-feet-9.25 to place second overall and finish just one inch shy of the MAC automatic qualifying mark. She has already hit automatic marks in both the 60 and the 200 this year.
Two other Falcons posted personal bests as Heather Baruxes ran the 3000 in 10:23.30 to place sixth overall out of 54 runners at the meet. Lindsay Kaatz also set a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:21.24.
Bowling Green will now have two weeks off before competing in the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 28 and March 1 at Kent State University. The Falcons will look to improve upon an 11th place finish at the meet a year ago.
