Monday evening snow could break season record

Posted: Updated:

Another round of snow will make for tricky travel on Presidents' Day.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Toledo region through 4:00am Tuesday.  13abc Meteorologist Bill Spencer predicts a total of 3 to 5 inches of snowfall by sunrise Tuesday.  If Toledo receives 4.5 inches of snow at Toledo Express Airport, a new record would be set.  The current record for snow in a winter season was set in 1977-78 with 73.1 inches of snow.

Some areas may experience a wintry mix south of Bowling Green with a combination of freezing rain and sleet.  Snowfall totals will be less in areas that receive freezing rain.

Some municipalities are reporting a shortage of salt to treat slick roadways.  But warmer temperatures ahead may help keep roads clear after the snow passes.

Live Doppler 13000 showed snowfall moving into western Ohio shortly after Noon on Monday.  There may be a slight break after the first shot of snow.  Snow will pick up again late Monday afternoon and possibly include a heavy burst of snow for the evening rush hour.

Later this week, moderate to heavy rain expected Thursday is causing concern.  The thaw later this week could create ice jams resulting in river flooding.

13abc's First Warning Storm Team is tracking the snow and will provide updates on 13abc.com.
