Maumee River flooding closes roads

Posted: Updated:

Rising waters caused by last week's thaw are causing problems. some roads in Waterville and Maumee are closed.

River Road between Jerome and Ford Street in Maumee is barricaded as water creeps out onto the road. The water is not deep now, but the concern is that an ice blockage on the Maumee could cause the water to rise quickly.

Mark Harris has lived in the area for many years and says it's been awhile since he's see the water this high.

"I can remember when my wife and I were dating. We'd come down and the ice was piled up on River Road and I remember it took a large chunk out of River Road by the cemetery. I've see it over the years really bad, but we don't this heavy winter, obviously, a lot."

As the temperatures are expected to drop again, the water over the roads could freeze. For now officials are keeping a close eye on the situation.
