Bowling Green State University junior Amanda Lievendag has been named the Mid-American Conference's Specialist of the Week for gymnastics. It is the second time this year that Lievendag has earned the award.
In a 194.825-193.075 win over Northern Illinois Sunday for Senior Day, Lievendag got the Falcons off to a strong start by scoring a 9.825 during both of the first two rotations. She began with a meet-best score on the vault, helping the Falcons out to an early lead and then again posted a meet-high result on the uneven bars.
The win was especially important for the Falcons as it pushes the team's record to 4-1 and keeps the opportunity to win a share of the regular season MAC Championship alive. Bowling Green will compete at Kent State on March 8 and a victory would clinch a co-MAC Championship. The four league wins are the most for the Falcons since 2010 and it marks the third consecutive season in which the team has improved its MAC win total.
Before the meet with Kent State, the Falcons will head south to face Texas Woman's in Denton, Texas Saturday at 8 p.m. Bowling Green is currently ranked No. 34 in the country, just inside the cut-off to earn one of 36 bids to NCAA Regionals.
