I-Team finds more demolished homes in Central Toledo

Posted: Updated:
Toledo, OH -

The 13abc I-Team looking into more homes in Central Toledo being torn down.  Last month the I-Team showed you lots of tax payer funded home either boarded up or already a pile of rubble.

This time it's a different part of Central Toledo but blight none the less.  Now one neighborhood is left with eyesores and lots of questions.

Toledo City Council members have been asking questions and here are just some of the results.  In all, 10 properties in the 1000 to the 1500 block of Oakwood are to be demolished.  Some of them already have been leveled and the piles of rubble are still left behind, buried under a blanket of snow.

Al 10 homes that are on the demolition list are owned by a group called the Toledo Community Development Corporation.  According to its website, the group was started in 1992 and the goal is to create affordable housing and provide a sustainable and diverse community.

The I-Team reached out to officials with Toledo Community Development Corporation to find out how these homes came to the point of demolition, but we've not heard anything back.

It would not be the first community development corporation knocking down homes.  The I-Team showed you these homes last month from a CDC called ONYX.  The goal was to turn the renters of these homes into buyers.  The homes eventually went into foreclosure and then into total disrepair in some cases.  ONYX was funded in part with your tax dollars.
