Murder suspect takes to social media

Posted: Updated:

One man behind bars and another on the run. They're accused of shooting and killing a man along a Toledo street. Now Toledo police are reviewing one suspect's posts on social media.

I talked to a lot of people who know the suspect. They did not want to go on camera, but they tell 13abc they are trying to get Tyrone Hoskins to turn himself in.

One of the men accused of killing Michael Williams allegedly posted a message on Facebook, writing that he's innocent and wants people to, as he put it, not "judge a book by the cover."

He claims Toledo police are hiding the truth about the shooting from the media and public.

Last month, Michael Williams Jr was shot and killed.  It happened in the 1500 block of Ottawa drive.

Hoskins allegedly wrote "show the tape" and I'll turn myself in. Toledo police say they don't release evidence in murder cases to the media.

"If he wants to see the evidence we have against him, he needs to come in with his attorney and we can review it at that time as it goes through the court process," says Toledo Police Sgt. Joe Heffernan.

Sgt. Joe Heffernan says releasing evidence could hurt the case.

"We are going to make sure that we have everything that we need to present to the prosecutor so the prosecutor can try the case best fairest manner," says Sgt. Heffernan.

The other suspect in this case Rishad Williams turned himself into police on Monday. A judge set his bond at $1 million.

On Tuesday the victim's mother spoke exclusively with 13abc. She says she's ready for closure

"I just wish he would go ahead and turn himself in," says mother Felisha Williams.

Toledo police hope family and friends will encourage Tyrone Hoskins to do the right thing.

"He's not doing himself any favors by staying out on the run. This is making the situation more aggravated more dangerous," says Sgt. Heffernan.

The Toledo police department is offering a reward for information leading to Hoskins arrest.
