I-Team helps with trash trouble in East Toledo

Some East Toledo neighbors are fed up with a pile of trash growing on a curb on their street.  One that's almost 4 months in the making.

It's all happening in the 800 block of Greenwood in East Toledo.  With a little help from the I-Team Thursday, everyone living around here is finally getting rid of an eyesore and they hope it's for good.

"It's disgusting," said one neighbor who chose not to be identified.

Beer cans, couch cushions, even a tire make up that massive trash mound on Greenwood avenue in East Toledo.

"I have to park down the street sometimes because there's not enough parking because the garbage has its own parking space," said that same neighbor.

The I-Team knocked at both the doors of the home trying to find someone inside to ask why they would leave this, ask them why make such a mess?  No one answered any of the doors.

Some people say the place is empty; others say people do live here so it's not clear, but clearly someone created this pile.  A pile that started in December despite the fact that actual trash cans are about 20 yards away. 

"The smell in the summer is disgusting, this is not the first pile but it's definitely the worst," said the neighbor. 

Help did arrive Thursday in the form of Danny from the City of Toledo, who cleaned up the mess.  A task made even tougher when neighbors saw Danny and decided to leave their own garbage in the street.

"I know everyone's trying to get Toledo to be a beautiful place where people want to live, nobody wants to live next to that," said that neighbor.

This kind of pile is totally avoidable.  You can call for a bulky pickup for items that don't fit in your can.  You get one free pickup every quarter.
