Ohio attorney general taken to Cincinnati hospital

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says he fell ill during a speaking engagement in Cincinnati and has been taken to a hospital to be evaluated.

A DeWine spokesman says the attorney general was taken by ambulance Friday to The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati after he did not feel well. He was speaking at a luncheon event at a restaurant near Fountain Square downtown.

Spokesman Dan Tierney said he believes that DeWine is alert. Tierney said he had no other information to release about DeWine's condition.

A hospital spokeswoman said she had no information to release immediately.

The 67-year-old DeWine is a former U.S. senator and Ohio lieutenant governor. After losing his Senate seat to Democrat Sherrod Brown in 2006, DeWine ran for attorney general in 2010 and won.
