Flags are at half-staff in the Village of Elmore in memory of police officer Jose Andy Chavez.

Chavez was shot and killed early Sunday morning at a bar in Fremont. Two other men Daniel Ramirez and bartender Ramiro Sanchez were killed and a fourth victim Ramiro Arreola was injured.

Chavez's relatives say Arreola, Ramirez and Chavez are relatives and were out celebrating Chavez's belated birthday at the bar when shots rang out after some sort of altercation.

Chavez's cousins says the relatives were unarmed when the unknown suspect picked a fight with someone. When a group of men tried to step in, the suspect fired randomly.

The Elmore police department released a statement saying that Chavez was an exemplary officer in good standing with the department who left behind a wife and two young children.

His family declined to be interviewed on camera, but his fellow officers say Chavez was a good guy who will be missed.
