Fremont triple murder suspect in custody

Posted: Updated:
FREMONT, Ohio -

Fremont police say they have arrested Igmidio Mista, 33.  He was wanted for a weekend triple murder.

Mista is accused in the shooting at the Last Call Bar on W. State Street early Sunday morning.

Police say around 1:30 a.m. off-duty Elmore Police Officer 26-yr-old  Jose Andy Chavez,  28-year-old bartender Ramiro Sanchez and  24-year-old Daniel Ramirez were all shot and killed.  Ramiro Arreolo was wounded and taken to a hospital where he was treated and released.

Relatives say Chavez, Ramirez and Arreolo are related and were out having a belated birthday celebration for Chavez.

The bar remained closed on Sunday as a memorial continued to grow outside.

Friends and family of the victims gathered inside St. Joseph's Catholic Church for a private vigil.

Sanchez's sister-in-law, Stacey Alvarez held her own vigil outside the bar. "He was just in the wrong place, wrong time and trying to help somebody. I guess he dove in to maybe try to stop the fight or maybe to stop a bullet, I'm not sure."

Flags remained at half-staff in Elmore in honor of Chavez, who was off-duty when he was shot.

Relatives of Chavez say the men were unarmed when the suspect came in and picked a fight with someone else. When they tried to step in to help, the man started shooting.

Tony Valentino was walking to the bar when the chaos happened. "It was craziness, there were so many cars leaving the scene. It seems like such a waste of life."

Mista will face murder charges and could be deported back to the Philippines.

33-year-old Igmidio Mista walked into court wearing a bulletproof vest. He's charged with three counts of murder

"The judge says do you have any problems communicating the English language Mista says a little bit."

The prosecutor also believes Mista's family helped him hide out after he allegedly shot and killed three people and injured another. Police are still trying to piece together what happened inside the bar.

"We arrived to find people actively doing CPR on several people down in the bar, " said Fremont police chief Tim Wiersma.

It all started over an argument.

"There was an altercation between his friend and another man the mans wife got a little bit involved," said the chief.

Police say a punch was thrown in Mista jumped in.

"Shot the person and we think he was randomly shooting people when he started to exit," said the Fremont Police Chief.

Police tracked down the suspect at a home in the 600 block of South Park Avenue.

"started talking at the front porch and mr Mista just walks up behind the guy they were talking with and he was arrested without any incident," saint the chief.

Mista will face murder charges here and could be deported back to the Philippines

"The criminal charges are here and they have charges because I believe maybe his passport is expired he had been here legally and is no longer legal for whatever he failed to do for his passport" said Chief Wiersma.
