Waterville boy featured on “Ellen” after selfless act

Posted: Updated:

A local Waterville boy whose father was killed in Iraq is getting national attention for a selfless act.

Eight-year-old Myles Eckert appeared on "Ellen" Thursday afternoon.

Myles recently found a $20 bill at a restaurant. Instead of spending it, he gave it to a soldier, along with a note thanking him for serving the country.

Lieutenant Colonel Frank Dailey carried on the kindness, and the story went viral online.

"I took the original $20 bill, and I made copies, several copies actually, of the note itself," Dailey says. "I gave it to a local charity, but on the piece of paper, I wrote a further explanation, taking Myles' inspiration, that we're paying it forward, so here's the $20 dollars and thank you for putting it back into the community."

Ellen told Myles kindness pays off.

"I bet your dad is very proud of you," she told him and gave him the video game he was thinking of buying with the $20. She also gave him a standing invitation to visit Legoland the next time he visits California.

She gave Colonel Dailey and his wife a trip to Hawaii.

In addition, the show donated $20,000 to "Snowball Express," which provides service and support for kids of fallen military heroes.
