Family tries to save Nala and Bugger before they are euthanized

Posted: Updated:

The owners of two Sylvania Township dogs set to be killed in Monroe County Friday file a motion in Monroe County District Court to try to delay them from being put down until they have more time to file a second appeal.

The dogs named Nala and Bugger, were previously convicted of killing two prized show pigs just over the state line in Bedford Township.

The owners still maintain their innocence. Thursday afternoon, the Juhasz family filed paperwork. The owners are trying to extend the deadline for a second appeal, but say they left court with no answers and now they have no idea what will happen to their dogs Friday morning.

In May 2013, Bedford Township hearing officer determined the dogs killed the two pigs. Last month, a judge upheld that decision. But not knowing the status of their latest motion has this family worried about the fate of their dogs.

"If it doesn't work out in our favor, I'll have a clean conscious," says Janni Juhasz. "I'm exhausted, I'm exhausted and it's been a toll. That's all I can say."

Nala and Bugger are still with the Monroe County's Animal Control center.

The Riverdale School teacher caught on camera being physical with a student has resigned. Superintendent Eric Hoffman tells 13abc he received Barb Williams’ resignation letter Friday. Hoffman will not release the letter at this time. He tells 13abc he will give the letter to the school board Monday at its meeting where the board is expected to formally act on the resignation. Hoffman would only say the letter says she will resign immediately.
