Employees: Northwood Sears store to close

Posted: Updated:

Employees of the Sears store that once anchored the former Woodville Mall say it will close its doors.

Workers told 13abc that they were informed of the closing in a meeting on Saturday.

Managers at the store had no comment and referred inquiries about the closing to Sears corporate. Messages left at the corporate offices have not been returned. Northwood city leaders were also unavailable for comment.

Workers say they were told the location would close by the end of July. A few weeks ago demolition crews began to dismantle what remained of the mall. Originally built in 1969, the mall declined rapidly over the past decade. The Sears store has been there since the mall opened.

Neighbors say they are not surprised to hear about the plan to close, but sad to see it go.
