A duo of Bowling Green State University baseball players -- Brett Fitzwater and Chris Miller -- were named Mid-American Conference Co-East Division Pitchers of the Week on Monday morning by the conference office. The pair combined to throw Bowling Green's first no-hitter since 1995, 6,918 days between the historic performances.
Fitzwater started on Friday against Bucknell, picking up the win as the Falcons won 7-0. It was the program's first no-hitter since April 5, 1995. In that start, Fitzwater tied his career high by tossing 5.0 innings, and striking out a career-high six batters. Fitzwater walked just three Bucknell hitters, and exited the game upon reaching his pitch limit against the Bison. It was just the second combined no-hitter in Bowling Green State University baseball history.
Miller capped off Bowling Green's first no-hitter in nearly 19 years, relieving Brett Fitzwater and tossing the final three innings for the save. It was Miller's first career save, as he was part of history in Friday afternoon's 7-0 win against Bucknell. Miller struck out two Bison batters during his three innings of work.
The Falcons will hit the field this weekend to begin Mid-American Conference play at Ball State. Friday's game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday are both slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
