Boiler work to cause pool closure this summer

Posted: Updated:

Monroe Public Schools announced they will replace three old boilers at its Arborwood South Elementary School this summer but the project will force the closure of the Dick Waters swimming pool.

The extensive asbestos abatement project will cost $1 million dollars and a new fire alarm system will also be installed at the same time.

Because the boilers are on the east side of the building in an area adjacent to the Dick Waters swimming pool, the pool will not be open for community swimming. The work will also cause the Summer Learning Academy to be moved to Custer Elementary.

With the pool closed long term repairs the site will be reviewed to determine the viability of re-opening the pool, said a news release from the Monroe Public Schools, the City of Monroe, and the YMCA of Monroe.
