Lourdes University's women's lacrosse team was locked up in a tight game with Walsh until the final eight minutes on Friday evening before the Cavaliers scored four late goals to earn a 16-9 victory over the Gray Wolves at Vasco Field in North Canton, Ohio.
Walsh scored three times in the first 1:34 of the contest before goals by Faith Fisher (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) and Katie Cerveny (Erie, Mich./Mason Senior H.S.) put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard. The Cavaliers opened up an 8-2 lead with 8:07 to play before break before Cerveny scored again and Haley Brown (Bedford, Mich./Bedford H.S.) found the back of the net.
The Cavaliers held a 9-4 lead at the break before Lourdes began to rally in the second half. Three goals by Fisher and another by Brown made it an 11-8 contest. Jessie Frost (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) added another goal at the 8:45 mark, but Walsh scored four times in the final 7:40 to secure the win.
Walsh (1-2) outshot Lourdes 37-21 on the night with Amanda Kaczmarek (Berkey, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) making 15 saves for the Gray Wolves. Fisher had nine shots for Lourdes while Cerveny added four shot attempts. Cerveny also had the Gray Wolves' lone assist on the day.
Lourdes (1-7) will return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face seventh-ranked Aquinas. The opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
