A warm breezy day in South Alabama is normally more conducive to attracting mosquitos than setting records at the apply named Mosquito Patch Pole night but records fell in all 3 divisions.
ARCA Mobile 200
In Menards Pole Qualifying for the ARCA Mobile 200 Justin Boston not only set the fast time with his ZLoop Toyota but broke the track record.
"We came here for one reason, and that's to win the race," Boston said.
Leading the field to the green flag from outside the front row will be Mason Mitchell in the Thermal Technology Services Ford.
10 time Champion Frank Kimmel will roll off 13th, defending Champion Grant Enfinger will start 4th, Mobile's Thomas "Moose" Praytor will start 17th and Mississippi's Darin Mathews will start 16th.
The green flag will fly for the 2014 ARCA Mobile 200 at 2:00 PM on Saturday afternoon. An hour long autograph session at noon will be followed by a prerace ceremony that includes American Idols Megan Miller and Alabama's AJ McCarron. Tickets are still available at the track.
Island Motor II Bombers
Just like Boston, BJ Leytham didn't just sit on the pole, he established a new track record!
A dice roll invert would give Donnie Phillips the pole and the drop of the green flag led to a side by side battle between Latham and Phillips. Kollin Kraft joined the fray making it 3 wide at times before the new track record holder Leythem took the point for good and collecting his first coveted Juke Box trophy.
Bob's Speed Shop Sportsman
Multi time track Champion Brannon Fowler would make it a hat trick
on Friday night by setting the 3rd track record while setting the
fast time in the Bob's Speed Shop
Fowler led every lap holding off a hard charging Steve Buttrick as the pair crossed the line door handle to door handle with Fowler holding on for the win.
While fowler led every lap the 50 lap cautioned filled feature was not without excitement.
Calvin Martin hit the turn 4 grandstand head on causing a red flag delay in the action while track crews attempted to repair the destroyed barrier.
After several attempts at a fix, the fans in the turn 4 grandstands were asked to move over a section for safety so the race could continue.
Track workers will be working overnight to have the section ready for tomorrows fan filled stands.
Back under green Fowler was in control while the cagey 4 time Snowball Derby Sportsman Champion and last year's ARCA Mobile 200 winner, Buttrick stalked his prey.
Buttrick made his move on the last lap but Fowler held serve tonight taking home his first ARCA Mobile 200 Juke Box.
