Posted: Updated:

The DC men's lacrosse team struggled Saturday, March 22, as it was defeated 24-0 by the Carthage Red Men in Midwest Lacrosse Conference competition.

The Red Men (6-1, 2-0 MLC) came into the contest off a big win over DePauw and upped its winning streak to five games. The Yellow Jackets (0-6, 0-2 MLC) still remain searching for their first win with the defeat.

Carthage got off to a quick start and never looked back on the afternoon. The home squad posted its first score less than a minute and a half into play and proceeded to notch eight total goals in the first period.

In the second quarter, the Red Men's offense continued to be productive, as it recorded seven more scores and take a 15-0 lead into half.

For the final 30 minutes of play, DC's defense played better as Carthage only had nine goals after halftime.

The Red Men held the advantage in shots (64-3), ground balls (51-24) and faceoffs (21-7) on the day. The Jackets Tylor Grandidier (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) did post 19 saves to Carthage's 0.

Dante Smith (Orlando, Fla. / Villa Rica), John Becker (Chicago, Ill. / Homewood-Flossmoor) and Matthew McGervey (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton-La Salle Catholic) each had one shot in the contest.

Defiance will return home for its next match this upcoming Wednesday, March 26. The Purple and Gold will take on the Wilmington Quakers with game time scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
