Bowling Green State University to hire Chris Jans as its new men's basketball coach

Posted: Updated:

Bowling Green State University will hire Wichita State Associate Head Coach Chris Jans as its next men's basketball coach. Jans coached the Shockers for the past seven seasons and Wichita State's season ended Sunday evening with a loss in the third round of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.

13abc confirmed Sports Illustrated's original report that Jans will replace Louis Orr as BGSU's new head coach.

Wichita State promoted Jans to Associate Head Coach during the 2011-12 school year and he is considered head coach Gregg Marshall's right-hand-man with the Shockers men's basketball program.

In Jans' time in Wichita, he helped to lead the Shockers to two Missouri Valley Conference championships (2012, 2014), an NIT Championship (2011) and a trip to the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Final Four in Atlanta. Wichita State received a bid to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in each of the last three seasons.

A press conference introducing Jans as BGSU's new men's basketball coach is set for Tuesday.
