Power restored at Lucas County Jail

Posted: Updated:

Power has been fully restored after a blown transformer caused an outage at Lucas County Jail. Sheriff John Tharp says the outage happened just before 7:00 PM Tuesday night.

Backup generators kicked in for emergency lighting, but phones, elevators and the heating system all stopped working.

Toledo Edison crews worked throughout the day Wednesday to restore power.

Sheriff Tharp says there was never any concern that inmates might escape. He says cells were locked at the time of the outage and don't rely on electricity.
