MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) - A 2-year-old Ohio girl has been killed after her father accidentally hit her with his car in a Walmart parking lot.

Ontario police Chief Rodney Smith says the girl's 25-year-old father began driving forward too soon Saturday after his family got out of the car in front of a Walmart in Ontario in northern Ohio.

His daughter had not gotten out of the way and was hit.

Smith says 2-year-old Lanay Brooks was pronounced dead soon after at a hospital.

He says Lanay suffered multiple traumatic injuries and that her autopsy will be performed Monday.

Richland County Coroner's investigator Bob Ball says Lanay's father kept repeating that he just didn't see his daughter.

Smith tells the Journal News in Mansfield that the girl's death a horrible accident.
