Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) tossed a five-hit shutout in game two of Thursday's doubleheader, helping lead Lourdes to a doubleheader split with Notre Dame (Ohio) at Normandy Field in South Euclid, Ohio. The Falcons won the opener 9-1 before the Gray Wolves took the nightcap 1-0.
Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) led off the second inning with a double and scored the lone run of the game on a two-out double to right center by Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.).
Cherry did the rest, scattering five hits over seven innings without walking a batter. She had to escape a seventh inning jam though as a single and an error put two runners aboard with just one out. The senior right-hander induced a lineout and a groundout to end the game. Cherry struck out two while earning the win (5-3).
Lourdes managed just two hits off of Ashley Hall, but the two extra base hits proved to be the difference. Hall also allowed just five hits, but walked one while striking out six in the loss (8-9).
Notre Dame (14-19) struck first in the opener, scoring three times in the bottom of the third. Lourdes got one run back in the fourth as Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) doubled and scored on a single by Yeager. The Eagles would score four times in the bottom of the fourth and added two more runs in the sixth to close out the win.
Anissa Kotoch went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in to pace Notre Dame's 14-hit attack in game one. Mosiniak and Erica Marvaso (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) each had two hits as Lourdes managed seven in the opener.
Mackenzie Wallace earned the complete game win (5-8), striking out four and not walking anyone over the seven innings. Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss (4-7), surrendering seven runs and 10 hits in four innings in the circle.
