Toledo Downed in Overtime 3-2 to Kalamazoo

Forward Kyle Rogers scored late in the third period to force overtime but the Walleye fall 3-2 to Kalamazoo Friday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 21-43-4-2 and is 11-22-1-1 at home.


The Wings would collect the first goal of the game when Ryan Del Monte slipped a wrist shot past a sprawling goaltender Hannu Toivonen at 14:25 of the first period. Toledo would tie the game at 13:32 of the second period when Max Shalunov scored his 16th goal of the season on the power play.


"We played strong against a very good team tonight," said Head Coach Dan Watson. "I loved the effort we gave tonight to fight back and tie the contest and force overtime."


Kalamazoo would regain the lead at 16:39 of the second period when Nick Sirota tipped a blue line shot past Toivonen. Kyle Rogers would wrist a shot past Kalamazoo goaltender Jordan Binnington at 15:16 of the third period to even the game at two; his 14th goal of the year. Matt Firman would net the overtime game-winner for the Wings just 1:12 into the extra session.


Walleye Notes:  Goaltender Hannu Toivonen made 25 saves on 28 shots on goal. Toivonen has a record of 12-16-1-0 on the season. Toledo finished the season 5-7-1-0 against the Wings.
