Facing a top-10 program for the second time in four days, Lourdes University's men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-8 decision to sixth-ranked Grove City on Saturday afternoon at Central Catholic High School.
Grove City scored the first four goals of the game and kept the Gray Wolves off of the scoreboard until the 6:32 mark of the second quarter when Danny Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) scored off a feed from Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.). That would be Lourdes only tally of the first half as the Wolverines built a 6-1 lead at intermission after scoring twice in the final 30 seconds of the stanza.
Lourdes made its run over the first nine minutes of the second half. Five straight goals, the last three coming from Andrew DiMartini (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) tied the game at six with 6:45 to play in the third quarter. Grove City scored the final goal of the quarter to take a 7-6 lead into the final 15 minutes.
Dylan Gill's (Holland, Ohio/Saint Francis H.S.) second goal of the game tied the contest at seven with 12:54 remaining, but the Wolverines would score four straight goals in less than four minutes to regain control of the game. DiMartini's fourth marker with 5:16 left pulled Lourdes to within three at 11-8, but the Gray Wolves would not score again.
Lourdes outshot Grove City 30-28 for the game but the Wolverines held the edge 24-15 in shots on goal. Connor Mishler (Lambertville, Mich./Saint John's H.S.) made 12 saves in front of the cage for the Gray Wolves while the Wolverines' Chris Dymski made seven stops.
David Hall scored six times for Grove City (8-3, 1-1 CCLA South) while Daniel Casselli added five goals.
Lourdes (10-2, 1-2) will return to action next Saturday, facing Lawrence Tech in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference fifth place game. The opening faceoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
