Bikramjit Gill (Our Ascension of the Lord/Toronto, Ontario, Canada) has been named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Third Team All-American.
In his only season with the Owens Community College men's basketball team, after transferring from Moberly Area Community College, Gill averaged 15.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and 1.3 steals over 30 games. He finished seventh in the nation in blocked shots.
In Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play, Gill improved his game and averaged 19 points, 13 rebounds, 3.2 blocks and 1.9 steals per game. He shot 58.2 percent from the field on 85-for-146 shooting. In conference play, Gill was the third leading scorer, top rebounder, top shot blocker and he finished eighth in steals.
In OCCAC play, Gill produced 11 double-doubles in 13 games played. His top rebounding games were 21, 21, 18, 15, 14 and 13, while his top scoring games were 29, 24, 23, 22, 21, 20 and 20.
"Bik has done an impressive job of making himself into a D-1 basketball player on the court and in the classroom," said Owens men's basketball head coach Dave Clarke. "Bik will graduate in May and head to Ball State to continue his basketball career. His All-American selection is rightfully deserved."
Some of Gill's season highlights include his 23 point, 18 rebound, six block game against Sinclair in the district semifinals, winning five OCCAC player of the week awards, shattering the program's single season blocks record by 15 (in six fewer games than the previous record holder), twice tying the program's single game rebounding record of 21 and his 14 double-doubles.
Additionally, Gill blocked at least one shot in every conference game and had at least three blocks in seven conference games. His season-high in blocks came on Jan. 18 when he produced 22 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks.
Gill's award marks the second consecutive year an Owens men's basketball player earned NJCAA All-American honors. James Kelly, who currently plays for the University of Miami (Fla.) men's basketball team, earned Second Team All-American honors in 2012-13.
Gill will continue his collegiate athletic career at Ball State University next year. He will become the fourth NCAA Division I men's basketball player from Owens Community College in the past two years, joining Kelly, Justin Edmonds (Marshall University) and Joe Retic II (Liberty University).
