Madonna Takes Sunday Twinbill from Lourdes

Posted: Updated:

Lourdes managed just three hits over two games offensively and committed seven errors defensively in dropping both ends of Sunday afternoon's doubleheader to Madonna, 10-2 and 7-0, at Pacesetter Park.

Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) had two of the Gray Wolves' three hits on the afternoon, one in each game, while Taylor Derr's (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) bunt single in the opener was the only other single for Lourdes on the day.

Madonna scored twice in the second inning of game one and added four unearned runs in third, taking advantage of two Lourdes miscues.  The Gray Wolves scored their only two runs in the bottom of the third as Megyesi's triple off the top of the wall in right-center plated Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) and Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.).

The Crusaders would add two more runs in the fourth along with single runs in the fifth and sixth to close out the game.

Bree Crampton earned the win (14-5) in the circle, allowing just the two runs and two hits while walking three and striking out four.  Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) suffered the loss (6-4), giving up five runs, only two of which were earned, and three hits in two innings.

Madonna (26-7, 12-2 WHAC) used three Lourdes in the first two innings of game two to score single runs in each frame.  The Crusaders added five insurance runs in the seventh, sending 10 batters to the plate in the inning.

Erin Combs tossed the one hitter without walking anyone for the win (11-2), striking out three in the process.  Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss (4-9), giving up four earned runs and eight hits in 6.1 innings of work.

Lourdes (12-16, 5-7) will return to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon, travelling to Dearborn, Mich. to face Michigan-Dearborn.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:30 p.m.
