Thompson to transfer from Ohio State

Posted: Updated:

Ohio State redshirt freshman and Central Catholic High School graduate Jayme Thompson will transfer away from the Buckeye football program. The transfer announcement comes just four days after Thompson appeared in Ohio State's annual spring football game.

13abc confirmed the earlier report from BuckeyeGrove.com.

Thompson missed the 2013 season with a broken ankle sustained during fall camp in Columbus and the safety played significant time during Saturday's spring football game at Ohio Stadium.

13abc learned Wednesday afternoon Thompson's transfer options include California, Kentucky, Louisville, Missouri, Penn State, Syracuse, West Virginia or Virginia Tech.

Coincidentally, Thompson originally verbally committed to play football at West Virginia during the winter of his junior year at Central Catholic, but changed his commitment later that spring to Ohio State during Urban Meyer's first season as Ohio State's head coach.

Rivals.com ranked Thompson as a four-star recruit at safety in the class of 2013.
