The No. 3 Ohio State rowing team posted eight wins Saturday at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, claiming six victories over No. 9 Notre Dame in the morning session and two victories over No. 4 Virginia in the afternoon session at Belleville Lake in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The second novice eight opened the morning session for the Scarlet and Gray, posting a time of 7:40.10 for a second-place finish. The crew of Alina Tiber, Jamie Kuhlman, Leila Salhi, Casey Schaffer, Grace Moeller, Allyson Rudolph, Erica Yoder, Samantha Peterson and coxswain Danielle Macklin fell to Michigan, which posted the winning time in 7:33.60.
Next, the first novice eight of Lindsey Steinbauer, Allison Baker, Emily Markham, Ana Sinicariello, MaryClare Stannard, Kelsey Hoehn, Samantha Rhodes, Sarah Davis and coxswain Danielle Figliuolo claimed the first Buckeye win of the day after crossing the line in 7:19.50 to defeat Notre Dame (7:41.47) by 21 seconds.
The third varsity four earned its second win of the season with a victory over two Notre Dame crews. Anna Lind, Sytske Miedema, Bridget Verdeyen, Jillian Getz and coxswain Meghan Mahoney posted a time of 7:54.47 to claim the win over Notre Dame ‘A’, which finished the race in 8:09.58 and Notre Dame ‘B’, which finished the race in 8:17.09.
The Buckeye second varsity four continued the win streak for the team, picking up its fifth win of the season. Sarah Kessler, Audrianna Penza, Anna Gackowski, Kelsey Albrinck and coxswain Sarah Asad sounded the horn in 7:31.90 to defeat the Irish (7:52.15) by 20 seconds.
In first varsity four competition, the crew of Victoria Langwasser, Anne Dietrich, Sarah Peffley, Anne Fruth and coxswain Sami Jurofsky notched a victory over Notre Dame (7:43.75) in a time of 7:34.40.
The second varsity eight notched its fourth win of the season against Notre Dame. The crew of Daphne Socha, Chloe Meyer, Nicole Becks, Katie Beletskaya, Katie King, Lauren Eckles, Stephanie Williams, Taylore Urban and coxswain Alexandra Sawatzki posted a time of 6:36.0, while the Irish placed second in 6:48.27.
In the final race of the morning session, the Buckeye first varsity eight sounded the horn in 6:25.30 for a first-place finish. Aina Cid Centelles, Elodie Ravera-Scarramozzino, Eelkje Miedema, Ashley Bauer, Meghan Birkbeck, Catherine Shields, Holly Norton, Claire-Louise Bode and coxswain Victoria Lazur defeated the Irish (6:32.06), by six seconds.
The first and second varsity eights also added wins for the Buckeyes in the afternoon session. The second varsity eight defeated Virginia (6:42.17) after posting a time of 6:32.60, while the first varsity eight remained undefeated and earned its sixth win of the season with a time of 6:21.30, defeating Virginia (6:25.91) by just over four seconds.
The second novice eight suffered its second loss of the day to Michigan (7:15.5) in the afternoon session, finishing its race in 7:21.09. The first novice eight also fell in the afternoon, dropping its race to Virginia (6:53.10) after crossing the line in 7:03.59.
In afternoon fours competition, the third varsity four dropped a hard fought race, crossing the line in 7:33.93 to fall to the Cavaliers (7:31.80) by just over two seconds. The second varsity four saw its win streak snapped, also falling to Virginia (7:16.70) by just over three seconds in a tight race after posting a time of 7:20.01. Lastly, the first varsity four notched a loss against the Cavaliers (7:21.10) after crossing the line in 7:28.50.
The Buckeyes have a bye weekend before closing the regular season Saturday, May 3 against Michigan State and Louisville at Belleville Lake in Ann Arbor, Mich.
