Former hospital employee faces charges over computer use

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio - An alleged breach of a local hospital system's computer network has a former employee facing criminal charges.  Tuesday that former Promedica employee faced a judge and then talked to the 13abc I-team about the charges.

Christiane Perkins facing 17 felonies, all but one are for unauthorized use of a computer.  The last one for menacing.  They date back to 2010 over something the defendant calls an issue of jealously.

Perkins appeared for an arraignment Tuesday, pleading not guilty to the charges.  She’s accused of allegedly misusing computers at Promedica's Lake Park Hospital on the Flower Hospital campus.  According to a Sylvania police report obtained by the I-Team, Perkins gained access to the Promedica computer network to retrieve information on the victim for the purpose of menacing the victim.

Perkins says that is not what happened at all.  She says this is an issue of jealousy by the alleged victim of the menacing, over a man.

The I-Team asked Perkins:  Did you ever go through Promedica computers, looking for personal information:  "No," said Perkins.  When talking about the alleged victim Perkins said, “She went down to the police department and manipulated the police officers, the Promedica staff and they gave her what she wanted like she's been doing since 2010.”

Promedica officials would not comment only to say Perkins no longer worked with Promedica.  They would not tell the I-Team what kind of information was taken from the Promedica computers.  It's not clear if this issue only affects one victim or more.  No matter how many, it's a scary thought with the amount of personal information any hospital has on any patient.

"I have been coming with evidence proving my innocence and justice hasn't been granted for me yet," said Perkins.

A trial date for Perkins has been set for May 22nd.
