Ottawa Hills boy grows hair to help others

Posted: Updated:
A young boy from Ottawa Hills did something that will help change the life of another child. He cut his hair for Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces to children in need. After nearly three years of growing his hair, it came off quickly but what 10 year old Campbell Streak-Jensen did will have a lasting impact on someone he will probably never meet, "It just felt right to do it. It was in my heart to do it."

Of course it took awhile to get his new haircut shaped up and as word of what he was doing spread throughout the salon, it became quickly clear that this simple act of kindness is truly an inspiration to others. Campbell's parents and grandmother were there to watch and his mother Caroline Streak-Jensen was emotional as she talked about her young son, "I want to cry. I feel incredible pride. This all came from him, he wanted to do it."

It all started when Campbell was just seven years old. He and his family have known a number of people who have both won and lost their fight against cancer. Caroline says he decided all on his own to take action, "He's very aware of others who don't have as much as we do in all kinds of circumstances and this was one thing he could do to help others." Mission accomplished, "It makes me feel nice and happy, really happy." What he did is no doubt going to make someone else very happy too!

Campbell was able to donate 10 inches of hair and he says it feels good to finally have all that hair off his neck. Locks of Love provides hairpieces to children suffering from long term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. By the way the new hair cut is just in time for Campbell to be being baptized at church this weekend..

The Riverdale School teacher caught on camera being physical with a student has resigned. Superintendent Eric Hoffman tells 13abc he received Barb Williams’ resignation letter Friday. Hoffman will not release the letter at this time. He tells 13abc he will give the letter to the school board Monday at its meeting where the board is expected to formally act on the resignation. Hoffman would only say the letter says she will resign immediately.
