Pothole progress in Toledo

Posted: Updated:
It's been a long winter for road crews and area drivers.

Potholes have plagued the city for months, but there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

"We've done almost 47,000 to date," Dave Welch, Commissioner of Streets, Bridges and Harbor for the City of Toledo said.

While it's a step in the right direction, Welch says they still have about 800 more on the to-do list.

"The good thing is, we've moved beyond triage," Welch told 13abc.  "We're working on major road repairs where we come in and do a longer stretch of road, so we'll take care of a lot of those potholes."

Now that the weather is slowly warming up, road crews can us the hot patch and it will last longer.

Douglas, Kenwood and the Anthony Wayne Trail have all had some work done.

Many drivers are hopeful as spring and summer move into northwest Ohio.

But for some the damage has already been done.

"My alignment is kind of thrown off because of the potholes," local driver Krista Frost told 13abc.   "I try to avoid it."

Welch says construction season is now in full swing and crews are working hard to smooth out Toledo's rugged roads.

To report a pothole you can call 419-936-BUMP.

The city of Toledo has big plans for the Reynolds Road corridor, and it's shelling out big bucks. Just last week, the city agreed to buy the site of the former Southwyck mall for $3M. That's if it can land a developer within 120 days. The designs call for a corporate headquarters. Southwyck closed in 2008. So did the Clarion hotel next door. The K-Mart next to that also pulled out, but today there's a welcome sign for some: A "now open" sign. It's on the front of the former K-Mart, showing of...
